Macintosh G5 models to use dual-core PowerPC 970MP (G5) processors, which have two independent processor “cores” on a single silicon chip. The Power Macintosh G5 Dual (2.3) is powered by a single “dual core” 2.3 GHz PowerPC 970MP (G5) processor with dual optimized AltiVec “Velocity Engine” vector processing units (one per core), four “double-precision” FPUs (two per core), 1 MB of on-chip level 2 cache on each core, and a 1.15 GHz frontside system bus. It ships equipped with 512 MB of 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200), a 250.0 GB (7200 RPM) Serial ATA hard drive, a 16X dual-layer SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±R W/CD-RW), a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 video card with 256 MB of GDDR SDRAM, one single link DVI port, and one dual-link DVI port for built in support of the Apple 30″ Cinema HD Display (other graphics cards are available as build-to-order options), two independent Gigabit Ethernet ports “with support for Jumbo frames”, and three PCI-Express expansion slots (one full-length eight-lane and two full-length four-lane slots, an additional sixteen-lane slot is occupied by the pre-installed video card). In addition to the standard compliment of ports, including FireWire “400″ & “800″, USB 2.0, DVI, and support for AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (with the optional installation of a multi-purpose antenna), all models in the Power Macintosh G5 series also provide optical digital audio in/out (SPIDF) ports. The Power Macintosh G5 Dual (2.3) uses the same easy-to-upgrade “anodized aluminum alloy” case of earlier Power Macintosh G5 models with the same removable side panel for easy access to internal components. This model ships with the Apple “Pro” keyboard and “Mighty” mouse. Custom configurations are also available.
