Powermac 1.25gHz Quicksilver system
Immediately following the release of the Power Macintosh G5, Apple discontinued the existing Power Macintosh G4 models and quietly introduced the Power Macintosh G4/1.25 MDD ("Mirrored Drive Doors" or "Wind Tunnel"), presumably in an effort to offer a "legacy" system still compatible with MacOS 9.
Based on the architecture used by the Xserve, the Power Macintosh G4/1.25 MDD features a single 1.25 GHz PowerPC 7455 (G4) processor with an AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit, 256k level 2 on-chip cache and 1 MB level 3 backside cache. This model ships configured with 256 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM, an 80.0 GB (7200 RPM) Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, a 12X/32X/10X/32X Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW), an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (AGP 4X) video card with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM, a digital audio sound system with a highly-efficient Tripath "Class T" amplifier.
This model uses the same case as the Power Macintosh G4 models discontinued on June 23, 2003, with the same fold down door on the side for easy upgrading, the same decorative indentions on the front reminiscent of the "Ventiports" on a 1949 Buick Roadmaster and the same two "mirrored finish" external drive bays. This model ships with the Apple "Pro" keyboard and optical mouse. Custom configurations are also available, including a dual processor option with 2 MB of level 3 backside cache per processor (2.), which if utilized, makes this model similar to the "lighter configuration" of the discontinued Power Macintosh G4/1.25 DP MDD, but with support to boot in MacOS 9. This mac will work with a standard SVGA crt screen, such as those sold by Computer Displays. If you require a computer monitor for use with your mac, they would be happy to advise you.
